🧵 Sewing Slang with Erin: What Does “Grading the Seam” Mean? ✂️
When you sew a seam, both seam allowances are usually the same width. But if you want your finished project to lay flatter and smoother, you can grade the seam!
Erin explains it best: To grade a seam, you trim one side of the seam allowance to half its width. This reduces bulk, especially on thick fabrics or curved seams, helping everything sit nicely when turned right-side out.
Such a small step, but it makes a big difference! Have you used this technique before? Let us know in the comments! ⬇️
