Snow Moon tomorrow. ❄️
As the midwinter Moon or the second full Moon of Winter, the Native American tribes of what is now the northern and eastern United States called this the Snow Moon because of the heavy snows that fall in this season and area.
This time lapse video shows the Lunar Occultation of Mars visible from New Orleans, Louisiana, on Jan. 13, 2025. This first full moon of the year also blocked the planet Mars for around an hour. This rare event occurred just as Mars reached its closest point to Earth since December 2022.
New Orleans is home to NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility, where several pieces of hardware for the SLS (Space Launch system) are being built.
