🖤 Black History Month Spotlight: Green Polonius Hamilton 🖤 Born in Memphis in 1867, Green P. Hamilton was a trailblazer in education, music, and literature. A graduate of LeMoyne Normal Institute, Rust College, and Columbia University, he dedicated his life to uplifting Black communities through knowledge and culture. 📚 Education Pioneer: In 1892, Hamilton became the principal of Kortrecht High School, the first public high school for African Americans in Memphis. Under his leadership, the school flourished, setting the foundation for future generations. 🎶 Musical Legacy: Around 1900, he organized the first Black high school band in Memphis, raising funds through concerts to buy instruments and uniforms.
