SOJC Duck Duos: Lyla Paru and Tessa Campbell 🦆💚 This duo met on their first day of the Face-to-Face First-Year Interest Group (FIG) with Derek Brandow. The pair entered as strangers and sat together, only to find out they were both in the SOJC direct-admit cohort! Three years later, they’ve now taken 19 classes together—not counting discussion courses. Over the years, the two have made countless memories. “My favorite SOJC memory was taking Gateway with Lyla,” Tessa says. “Knowing what we knew about Gateway, we perfected our spring term schedule to have enough time for our Gateway projects and tanning. We would go to Gateway, get sandwiches from LLC, go straight to our secret tanning lawn, and then film our projects when the sun went down.
