Iowa Farm Sanctuary's beloved water buffalo Phill died overnight at the Iowa State University Large Animal Hospital after a sudden illness. Phill became famous in Iowa when he escaped from his previous owner in Pleasant Hill and roamed loose for five days last October. Phill was found lethargic, unsteady and had stopped eating on Thursday, according to a post on Facebook. The animal hospital said he was in critical condition after arriving on Thursday afternoon.
