Eli Kimble ’27 made history when he was named the Dick Gallagher Buffalo News Player of the Year. Kimble is the first sophomore to earn the honor in the 47 years of the award. Kimble ran for 1,778 yards and scored 32 touchdowns to help lead Canisius to the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association championship and The Buffalo News Large School Poll title. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Kimble had four touchdowns and 181 yards in the championship game as the Crusaders beat St. Joe’s for the 11th straight time. Kimble, a Rivals.com four-star recruit, has scholarship offers from Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Mississippi State and Michigan among 17 others; Oregon State and Washington are the most recent programs to join that list.
