This red, white and blue flag of the United States of America was made from the ripped-apart clothing of the students and professor in an interdisciplinary studies class at Purdue University after the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center Twin Towers.
In a statement from the donor, Professor Cynthia Fortner, "During our interdisciplinary studies class on September 11, 2001, I learned that several students had friends or loved ones for whom they could not account. Much of this uncertainty remained throughout our next class meeting on Sept. 13. where all of us were still filled with chaos and confusion. As a class, we decided to create a memorial for the people who were tragically lost, taking into consideration all colors, creeds, races, faiths, and generations, and to the loved ones who remained struggling to make sense of their utter despair.
