Carolyn R. Hodges ‘69, PhD was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2024. She exemplifies what it means to be a woman who leads. She earned a B.A. degree in French at Arcadia University, where a German teacher and study-abroad program in Germany inspired her to go on to obtain an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Germanic Languages and Literatures from the University of Chicago. She was also awarded Arcadia's Sankofa Award for Distinguished Achievement.
In 1999, Professor Hodges was named head of the Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures before becoming the Associate Dean for Academic Personnel in the College of Arts and Sciences. Since joining UT, her teaching and research have emphasized three major areas: multicultural perspectives in modern German literature, comparative literature, and multicultural education.
