Longtime Republican Sen. #MitchMcConnell on Thursday said he will not seek another term in office when he is up for reelection in 2026. The Kentucky politician has been a fixture of conservative politics since he was first elected to the Senate in 1984. But his Thursday announcement, made on his 83rd birthday, comes after he recently drew the ire of fellow Republicans for voting against the confirmation of #PeteHegseth, President #DonaldTrump’s newly-appointed Defense Secretary; McConnell was also the lone Republican to vote against #RobertFKennedyJr becoming the head of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services earlier this month. 🔗 link in bio for more on this story.
