Lansing, Ashe County N.C. 10.3.24 Located 45 minutes outside of Boone and 20 minutes North of West Jefferson is Lansing, NC. The town of 128 residents was heavily impacted by Helene, only sparing 4 businesses that sit on the main street running through town. All 4 of these businesses have reopened their doors to provide free food, free clothes, and house supplies that are being brought for aid. Shawn Goss, slide 3, gathers clothing after his possessions were destroyed by the flooding. A video showed how Goss’ bed was floating next to the ceiling when he was rescued by family members. Another cornerstone of Lansing, CJ’s Market, was filled with five to six feet of water. This was the only main grocery store in town. However, even with the loss of his store, Co-Owner James Hart has reopened his doors as a supply hub for anyone in need.
