#OnThisDay in 1965, 60 years ago, Malcolm X was assassinated at the Audubon Ballroom in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, NY. He was shot 16 times at close range and pronounced dead at 3:30 p.m. at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital’s Vanderbilt Clinic.
Born Malcolm Little in 1925, his early experiences with racial discrimination inspired him to become a major voice against systemic oppression.
