The work of For Freedoms canvases the Corcoran Atrium and upstairs galleries, engaging in dialogue with former billboards and exhibitions like “Where Do We Go From Here” and Hank Willis Thomas’ “14,719 (2018).” Together, these pieces reinforce questions about American patriotism, national identity, and political America. What does it mean to subscribe to the American idea? What if, and how can we, create more authentic, fully formed images of America, one that includes those the flag and previous works, like Norman Rockwell’s “Four Freedoms” initially “forgot”?
The public galleries and the Luther W. Brady Art Gallery at the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design are open Wednesday–Saturday, 1–5 p.m.
