Step into the historic Baldwin Saloon in The Dalles—an 1877 building with a mahogany backbar and antique safe—and feel like you've traveled back in time. The saloon’s walls, from ceiling to beadboard, feature 30 original oil paintings, many by landscape artist Joseph John Englehart. Englehart, known for his hundreds of realist American West landscapes in the late 1800s and early 1900s, remains an enigmatic figure who claimed to have been born in Chicago in 1867.
