For the 15th straight school year, the Victory Bell returned to its familiar spot in the trophy case in the main hallway. The railroad bell was purchased in 1953 by the newspaper staffs at McCallum and Travis high schools. Both schools’ football teams compete for the bell when they play a rivalry game against each other that it as old as the schools themselves.
According to tradition, the football teams compete and students at the winning school can ring the bell until midnight on the night of the game. But is considered bad luck to ring it after that until the end of the next year’s game.
The Shield staff would like to thank Ms. Noack for volunteering to help us assemble and return the bell to its familiar location. Photos by Adele Seeboth.
