Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) on Tuesday said he’s still a “no” on House Republicans’ budget resolution following a conference meeting on the measure intended to unlock reconciliation powers to get President Trump’s agenda through Congress.
“I was a ‘lean no’ before this meeting, now I’m a ‘no,’” he told reporters about the resolution Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) hopes to put to a vote later in the evening.
“If the Republican plan passes under the rosiest assumptions, which aren’t even true, we’re going to add $328 billion to the deficit this year, we’re going to add $295 billion to the deficit the year after that, and $242 billion to the deficit after that, under the rosiest assumptions,” he added. “Why would I vote for that?”
Speaker Johnson, operating with a very slim majority, can afford to lose only one Republican on the resolution, assuming full attendance in the House.
