These two Howard alumni believe that their craft is an art form and means of resistance. Kendall Isadore and Elise Sharp are a part of the thestringqueens, a soulful group of musicians. In addition to being performers, these ladies are also educators who believe that teaching the next generation of string players is more than instruction, it's activism. The group was recently featured on voanews documentary episode called “Soulful Strings” that captures their journey as performers, educators and the groundbreaking trio of Black musicians. Howard has long stood as a beacon for those seeking to push beyond imposed limitations, and Isadore and Sharp understand that playing their instruments in a world that often underestimates Black classical musicians is a statement and declaration that they belong in these spaces.
