When my Grandaddy Sam passed away at 98 last year, I brought his skillet home after cleaning out his belongings. I decided to send it my friend cast_iron_chris to restore. My Granny (his wife), who taught me to cook, had passed away 10 years previously, so I thought this was just some generic, crusted-over pan. Boy, was I wrong and surprised! It turned out to be a Wagner! And we later learned it was the skillet that my Granny made cornbread in at every meal. The #1 thing I remember her making. Being a cast iron collector of Griswold, yeti, finexcookware & lodgecastiron, this is a great and special addition to my collection. This is not an ad. This is a PSA! Some folks think you can do this process in a high heat oven. I recommend Chris’ process instead, because the high heat can crack a vintage pan. I didn’t know this was an old Wagner, so I’m really glad I had this restored the proper way. Chris, THANK YOU!!!! This pan will be cherished for many more generations to come!
