JQY is a mental health organization dedicated to supporting Jewish queer teens and young adults. We got to speak with CEO therachfried who gave us a tour of JQY’s Times Square office. Every Thursday, jewishqueeryouth offers their “drop-in center” where anyone between the ages of 13-23 can drop-in for specialized programming, arts and crafts, mental health support, free kosher dinner, or just a place to relax. JQY supports Jewish and queer youth of all backgrounds, including those within the Orthodox community in NYC and around the world. “There are a lot of places in the world where they don’t feel super comfortable being out as queer in Jewish spaces, or they don’t feel super comfortable being out as Jewish in queer spaces,” Fried tells us. “And JQY is a space where you don’t have to check any part of yourself at the door.” Via nyjewishweek #queerjews #lgbtq #jewishstories
