Mary Church Terrell fought relentlessly to ensure Black women were not left out of the fight for suffrage. In a movement dominated by white women, she stood firm—strategic, unyielding, and determined. Leading the National Association of Colored Women, she made sure Black women were visible and at the forefront of historic marches. "A white woman has only one handicap to overcome—her sex; a colored woman faces two—her sex and her race." Her fight for inclusion teaches us a vital lesson: True democracy leaves no one behind.
