What is believed to be the most expensive residence in the Des Moines area built without a pre-determined buyer is about to hit the market. Built by Ankeny custom home builder Kimberley Development, the four-bedroom, 7,376-square-foot "spec" home at 1576 S. Stonewood Drive on the outskirts of West Des Moines is about 10 minutes south of Jordan Creek Town Center. Kimberly's founder and president, Bill Kimberley, said he designed the home to be like one he would want to live in. As home prices and building costs increase, Kimberly said, he hopes it will appeal to a buyer who doesn't want to wait the two years it typically takes for a custom luxury home to be designed and constructed. Design work started about 18 months ago, with construction commending about a year ago, he said.
