Zoe Saldaña — who became the first American of Dominican descent to win an Oscar — won best supporting actress, one of just two wins for "Emilia Pérez" on Sunday night.
Saldaña said she was the "proud child of immigrant parents" and gave special shoutouts to her mother and grandmother during her speech after winning an Academy Award for her role in Emilia Perez.
"The fact that I’m getting an award for a role where I got to sing and speak in Spanish — my grandmother, if she were here, she would be so delighted, this is for my grandmother," she said.
