What’s happening in America is so scary. Conversion therapy, a set of harmful practices disguised as “therapy,” continues to be forced on LGBTQ+ youth, despite being rejected by every leading medical and mental health organization. These practices, which falsely claim to change a person’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression, only lead to shame, depression, and self-hatred…or worse. It’s time to put an end to this dangerous practice. I’m proud to stand with Born Perfect, a program of the National Center for Lesbian Right’s non-profit, that fights to protect LGBTQ+ youth from these harmful practices. Born Perfect has helped pass conversion therapy bans in 22 states and over 115 cities, empowering survivors and advocating for laws that protect our community.
