There's a reason the Panas girls basketball team won a state Class A title in 2023 and came within a basket of doing so again last year Make that multiple reasons, starting with, but not limited to Panas' super talented, super quick duo of Cadence Nicholas and Sofia Tavarez. The two showed their magic with steals, seemingly endless hang time and stunning shots from every possible arm angle Tuesday, March 4, as the top-seeded Panthers advanced to the Section 1 Class AA championship game with a win over No. 4-seed Mahopac at Westchester County Center. Panas, (22-1) will play No. 2-seed Rye Saturday at 5 p.m. for the Class AA championship. Panas' lone loss was to Class AAA juggernaut Albertus Magnus.
