Denise Vasquez found a lifelong friend during Spring Training in Arizona, and a life-saving friend, as well. The U.S. Navy veteran met and made friends with fellow Chicago Cubs fan Cathy Weadley, while attending thecactusleague games in the Valley. Little did she know that Weadley would step up to the plate and offer to be her donor, after finding out that her baseball buddy desperately needed a kidney transplant. The two underwent successful transplant surgery at Dignity Health St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in downtown Phoenix. "When I heard Denise needed a kidney, I knew I had to try," Weadley, a retired teacher, told NBC News.
