Their vast territory of over 24 million acres serves as a crucial stronghold of biodiversity on the frontlines of deforestation in the southeastern Amazon. The Kayapo have strategically placed guard posts along their over 1,300-mile border, with regular foot and boat patrols, which serve to safeguard their ratified land rights.
