#OnThisDay, 2 days after the violent events of "Bloody Sunday," civil rights activists, led by Martin Luther King Jr., made a second attempt to march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama.
When the marchers reached the Edmund Pettus Bridge, they were again met by law enforcement. Honoring a federal court restraining order, King halted the march. Following a prayer led by Ralph Abernathy, he turned the group back, vowing to resume the journey once legal protection was secured. This became known as #TurnaroundTuesday.
