Every year, International Women’s Day brings a flood of corporate slogans, panel discussions, and social media hashtags. Yet, when the posts fade and the events end, too often, real policy and investment in women’s progress remains stagnant. Women don’t need more symbolic gestures—we need bold policies, targeted funding/ investment, and sustained commitment to dismantling barriers that hold women back. We need government that prioritises reproductive rights, workplace equality, protections against violence and women’s economic development. We need a public sector, business and social enterprise sector that invests in women-led enterprises, close pay gaps, and build workplaces free from harassment. We need more than just “celebration”—we need systemic change. Until every woman has access to quality healthcare, economic opportunities, and safety, International Women’s Day will remain an annual ritual of empty promises.
