We stopped into Mr. Bill’s for donuts and hot coffee—32 years of locals being greeted by name and their "usual". Sun-faded photos lined the walls, sunkissed from the watching over downtown DeLand for decades.
We left with a dozen assorted, stepping into the golden morning light. As we rounded the corner, the hum of a radio mixed with long shadows stretched down the road. There, a man sat, soaking in the quiet Florida morning.
I turned to chancecraven —“I've gotta get that photo with the Leica". Twenty paces later, I stopped at the truck to grab my camera and double back to the contrasty scene.
“Hey sir, do you mind if I get your photo?”
“Sure,” he said.
A few frames, a handshake, and a name: “It’s Hollywood.”
Walking back to the truck, I thought I might’ve missed a better shot. Then it hit me—it wasn’t about the shot at all. I met Mr. Hollywood. And that was enough to make a good day.
