Politician or party worship is real—and as Catholics, we must guard our hearts against it.
Jesus Himself “did not entrust Himself to men, because He knew what was in men” (Jn 2:24-25). We must have the same disposition toward our leaders.
Unlike state-created religions like Anglicanism or Eastern Orthodoxy, the Catholic Church exists to rebuke and guide temporal power—not serve it. Think of St. Ambrose rebuking Emperor Theodosius or Pope Gregory VII excommunicating Henry IV.
We can commend what is true, good, and beautiful in politics, but our first loyalty is to Christ and His Church—not any earthly nation or ruler.
As St. Peter said: “We must obey God rather than men.” (Acts 5:29)
