Rolex has experimented with hardstone dials ever since the 1970s, but it wasn’t until the 2000s that the feature became widely used on the racing Cosmograph Daytona.
This white gold reference 116589 is fitted with a deep blue sodalite dial, further embellished with diamonds as the indexes. Hardstone dials are extremely hard to manufacture, with even the slightest mistake causing a fracture. While that alone would make this a special Daytona, this particular watch is rarer still because of its sapphire-set bezel, a beautiful complement to the blue sodalite.
