In his 2025/26 Budget Debate presentation, Opposition Leader Mark Golding called for urgent action to lower Jamaica’s electricity costs, which have nearly doubled since 2016. He criticized the government’s failure to expand renewable energy projects and pledged to issue regular Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to achieve Jamaica’s 33% renewable energy target by 2030. Golding also emphasized the need for fairer JPSCo negotiations ahead of the 2027 license renewal and a major initiative to help informal electricity users become legal customers. ⚡🌱 Beyond energy, Golding proposed incentives to retain teachers, including debt relief, tax-free laptops, and improved housing benefits. He also outlined plans to revamp HEART/NSTA Trust and invest in vocational training to equip Jamaicans for high-paying jobs. 🇯🇲📢 (📸: Garfield Robinson) #BudgetDebate2025 #MarkGolding #EnergyReform #LowerElectricityCosts #RenewableEnergy #SkillsForSuccess
