In the 1990 NCAA Tournament, Bo Kimble honored his teammate Hank Gathers by shooting his first free throw of each game with his left hand. Hank Gathers was Bo Kimble’s best friend, and he passed away after tragically collapsing on the court from a heart condition. The tribute came about because Gathers struggled with free throw shooting, and even though he was right-handed, he switched to shooting free throws left-handed to see if he could improve.
