Coming soon to Goodwood | A 1938 Bentley 4¼-Litre Drophead Coupé 🇬🇧
The 1938 Bentley 4¼-Litre Drophead Coupé is a desirable M-series overdrive model with a distinguished history. First delivered to Mrs. Wallace Vernon, it later passed to the Pearson family before being acquired by Peter Coni, OBE, CQ. The current owner purchased it in 1993, and between 1995 and 2004, it underwent a £200,000 ‘bare chassis’ restoration by marque specialists P&A Wood.
Powered by a refined 4,257cc engine with twin SU carburettors and Hall’s Metal bearings, the Derby Bentley evolved to meet Europe’s growing high-speed road network. The M-series, introduced in late 1938, added an overdrive gearbox and improved lubrication. Coachbuilt by Park Ward, this example remains a fine representation of Bentley’s craftsmanship, recently attending the Silent Sports Car Club’s 90th Anniversary in 2023.
