The NYC Half Marathon is by no means an easy course. Up, down, and all around from Brooklyn to Central Park. It is truly the best dress rehearsal for the Boston Marathon.
Before this race, I hadn’t touched anything faster than 5:15s in training, but I was confident I had enough effort-based training that my body would be able to respond to anything.
I have been really focusing on running smart on hills.
Aka: not wasting too much energy on the climbs, and recovering as much as possible on the descents.
The Effort Pace feature on my COROS watch really helps me gauge the appropriate energy expenditure needed (specifically on hills) to allow for an optimal performance.
NYC Half was the perfect opportunity to put Effort Pace to the test and it sure did not disappoint! I was hoping for a sub 70-minute day, but sub 69 minutes was made possible with a little help from my friend, Pace 3 ❤️
With 5 weeks to go, I am feeling more confident than ever that I am doing things right.
