The origin story of White Desert began 20 years ago, when Patrick (co-founder and CEO) found himself pinned down by a blizzard during a record-breaking 1,850 km expedition to cross the continent of Antarctica. When Patrick first discovered the site for Whichaway Camp, he was captivated by the rugged stone terrain, surrounded by a natural lake, with a view that stretched on forever. However, as he turned to head back to base, he realised he was lost and unsure of 'whichaway to go'. Many years later, Whichaway has transformed into a place our guests now call home during their Antarctic adventure. A place filled with elements of warmth and comfort that Patrick certainly didn’t have when the idea for the camp first came to mind... This year, White Desert is celebrating 20 years of taking guests into the heart of Antarctica.
