While other countries banned ice cream during the war, the US recognized it as a staple of American life as it had become a substitute for alcohol during Prohibition. Author Matt Siegel filled us in on this wild history while Juliet Pries of the Ice Cream Bar in San Francisco showed us how to make one of the era’s most popular flavors (and an Oakland invention!), Rocky Road.
