From the Heart of a Black Woman: A Valentine’s Reflection Two years ago, I created this shoot without realizing its significance. Armed with my camera, lighting, and a vision, I prayed for guidance—and the results spoke for themselves. I chose to step beyond traditional Valentine’s themes, using the model’s hair as a framing element to create depth and contrast. More than anything, I wanted to highlight the richness of her skin—celebrating Black beauty in an industry that often demands conformity. The light heart shapes on her face symbolized self-love, while her gaze carried the emotion I sought—not a smile, but a story told through her eyes. This project helped me find my creative voice and reaffirm my place in this industry. Every time doubt creeps in, I look at work like this and know I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.
