Nearly 100 English Bulldogs from pet owners across 17 states gathered at Olmsted Center at Drake University on Wednesday evening, hoping to be chosen to compete in the university's annual Beautiful Bulldog Contest. The 100 bulldogs were narrowed down to 30 contestants and 10 alternates via a lottery drawing. Bulldogs of all shapes and sizes were selected during the event, which was presided over by drakeugriff. Since 1979, drakeuniversity has bestowed the title "Most Beautiful Bulldog" to nearly 50 dogs. Last year, Pumpkin, a bulldog from Oakland, Iowa, won the university's 45th Annual Beautiful Bulldog Contest. The contest is among the festivities celebrating Drake Relays week.
