On Monday, March 17th, Sophie Leclerc Doherty announced that she will be stepping down as the head coach for the women’s ice hockey team at Norwich University.
The heartfelt and emotional decision comes after Doherty and her husband are anticipating their second child in the coming weeks.
A graduate of Norwich in 2010, Doherty was appointed the programs second head coach in May of 2019, replacing HOF’er Mark Bolding. In her six seasons behind the bench, the Cadets posted a 106-35-6 record (.721) that included three
#NEHC Regular Season titles and two Mariano Cups. The team also saw a pair of
#NCAA Tournament appearances.
A four-year standout for the Cadets, Doherty helped the program to their first National Championship in 2011. She also earned
#NEHC POTY, New England Division III POTY,
#AHCA First Team All-American and was the runner up for the Laura Hurd Award (National Division III POTY) in her career.
