BMWs last three generations: Which is your cup of tea?
The E9X M3 (2008–2013) introduced the high-revving 4.0L S65 V8, producing 414 horsepower at 8,300 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque. It was the last naturally aspirated M3, known for its sharp handling and raw driving experience.
The F8X M3/M4 (2015–2020) replaced the V8 with the S55 twin-turbo inline-six, delivering more torque and faster acceleration. This generation focused on lightweight materials, aggressive styling, and improved technology, making it more refined yet extremely capable on the track.
The G8X M3/M4 (2021–present) refined the formula with the S58 twin-turbo inline-six and optional all-wheel drive. It delivers even more power, advanced electronics, and a controversial new design, but remains BMW’s most capable M3/M4 to date.
