Ahead of the Columbia mayoral election on April 8, the Missouri Students Association hosted a forum for the candidates to discuss student-focused issues such as transportation, housing and general student wellness. Only three of four candidates of the race were present: current Mayor Barbara Buffaloe, Blair Murphy and Tanya Heath. Lucio Bitoy IV, the certified write-in candidate, was not present. Buffaloe’s message primarily centered around sustainability and continuing Columbia operations outside the control of the federal and state governments. Murphy focused on safety, especially in downtown Columbia, and proposed increasing the number of police officers and the police presence around Columbia. Heath’s campaign placed importance on facilitating conversations between Columbia residents to solve issues collaboratively. View the story at the link in our bio.
