Arrow McLaren SP went into race seven of 17 on the 2022 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season, after finishing second, fourth, and 11th in the Indianapolis 500. A podium and a victory in 2021 gave the team high hopes leading into the Detroit GP weekend. Pato O'Ward qualified and finished fifth in the 70-lap event, while Felix Rosenqvist fought from 25th to 10th by the end of the race.
