Johanny Sánchez says her husband was unjustly deported to a maximum security prison in El Salvador on Saturday, when the Trump administration invoked the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to transfer hundreds of alleged Venezuelan gang members to El Salvador. Sánchez says her husband – who entered the U.S. in 2023, requesting asylum from persecution back home – was targeted because of his tattoos, which she believes law enforcement officials mistook as associated with the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua. In particular, Sánchez believes they took issue with the large clock tattooed on his arm, but she says that tattoo actually marks his firstborn daughter’s time of birth.
