In 2009 a sea stallion helicopter dropped me and aaronschach off at one of the most remote US bases in Afghanistan - where the 2-3 Marines had suffered about 25% casualties in about a month all of them from ID IDs... And those soldiers greeted us within incredible hospitality as you can see in that first image, and then protected us as we traveled with them. Some of those marines did not come home, and some of the soldiers from the 10th mountain division (2nd image) also didn't make it. Some of them made it home but we're never the same... or took their own lives.
