Connecting my childhood to my present.
Struggle, pain, loss, abuse, darkness… as well as resilience, perseverance, and purpose.
I was raised without a father, but instead by strong women, who were fearless and intelligent - with integrity and power.
Grit. Insight. Leadership. Compassion. Strength.
Remembering what my mother crawled through...crying, bleeding, beaten, worrying, working tirelessly to keep us alive and prepare us for life on our own.
Painting this was very cathartic for me, as I’ve been battling with depression and struggling with the stability of my mental health.
Creating this after experiencing the art of life through this film, The Woman King, I was reminded of who my mother was for me as we had nothing but her to stand on, while she had nothing or no one to stand on for herself.
And she never gave up. Never.
