“Hiroshige’s 100 Famous Views of Edo (feat. Takashi Murakami)” closes this Sunday, August 4, at Brooklyn Museum (brooklynmuseum) in New York. In this exhibition, Utagawa Hiroshige’s “100 Famous Views of Edo” returns to public display for the first time in twenty-four years. Originally published in 1856–58, the series captures the evolving socioeconomic and environmental landscape of the city that would become Tokyo. The show includes the full set of prints and other complementary objects drawn from the museum’s collection, as well as new paintings by Takashi Murakami (takashipom), created in direct response to Hiroshige’s masterpiece.
