🇯🇵📍Add VIRAL mochi pounding demonstration in Japan to your travel itinerary. It was very cool to watch a mochi pounding demonstration in real life. Truly videos do not do it justice. It only happens at Nakatanidou in Nara…the same area you go to deer park. The demonstration takes place in front of the shop and is free to watch. The speed and synchronization of movement is phenomenal. Mochi is a traditional Japanese rice cake made by pounding glutinous rice with a pestle and mortar until it becomes a soft and bouncy dough. It’s then filled with red bean paste and dusted with soybean powder. This is as fresh as mochi gets and I can easily say it’s some of the best mochi I have had. As a lifelong mochi lover..I have made it my mission to have mochi almost every every day I have been in Japan and I still dream of this mochi. I will say sesame mochi balls have always been a favorite of mine too but they truly do not compare to these mochi.
The demonstration happens about every 30 minut...
