The new #Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is fantastic, but it’s not my dream Porsche. It can’t, as far as Porsche will admit, ever come with a manual transmission. And it’s not as good to drive as the nearly twice-the-price 911 S/T, which will forever be my modern 911 benchmark. But a 911 is about bandwidth. The entire Carrera and Turbo range can be used as everyday commuters, weekend canyon smashers, date-night cruisers, track-day partners, and luxurious road trippers, all in one package. The hybrid powertrain extends both the performance and comfort ends of that package outward, creating the most versatile variant of the most versatile sports-car range. Look past the word “hybrid” and remove the decals on the doors that indicate as such, and it’s still a 911.
