Throwback to a couple years ago when we got the chance to drive the one and only Shelby Cobra CSX2001. Yes, the first production Cobra. It was impossible to drive this car slowly. It jumped forward and moved quickly at idle in first gear. A little more speed, a twist of the wheel. The steering felt tactile and immediate, the wooden rim throbbing in rhythm with the engine’s pistons. The whole package felt remarkably alive and so purely mechanical. There was no opportunity to experience CSX2001 in the racetrack environment where it earned its checkered flags. But still, it opened a portal into the past, and I could almost hear the 12-cylinder GTOs on either side of me, launching into a straight three abreast at full throttle.
