As Multnomah County faces questions about a huge shortfall in its upcoming homelessness services budget, county officials are defending their spending choices.
“I stand by the money that we’ve moved into the community,” Multnomah County Homeless Services Director Dan Field said.
Multnomah County has been under fire since asking for aid from other governments last month to cover a gap in its homeless services budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year that officials initially claimed was $104 million wide.
Additional reporting by The Oregonian/OregonLive showed that the actual gap if the county doesn’t refill its reserves is closer to $70 million.
